Uus Maa spent 3 weeks on bicycles

Wednesday, 22 July 2009

In June the team of Uus Maa was participating in a project called "Rattarikkaks" (Bike Friendly) to help making riding a bicycle more popular and make an effort to turn Tallinn into a more bicycle-friendly town. The project was organized by Eesti Roheline Liikumine, Uue Maailma Selts and several other environment focused organizations. In Co-operation with the bike store Hawaii Express all participants were given a free bicycle to use for 3 weeks. In riding a bike to work we got a lot of support form Rävala parking house – they let us park our bikes for free.

The experience was fun for everyone. Some got more motivation to buy a bicycle, some found that as a real estate broker it actually quite convenient to use a bike for getting to appointments and some just had a great time performing stunts on the bike. Most of the people agreed though that Tallinn city government should invest more into building proper bicycle roads, because riding on the road is dangerous and many drivers tend to ignore cyclists and this can lead to serious accidents. In general we all felt happy to be greener for these 3 weeks.
